About Bulgarian National Science Fund

The National Science Fund (FNI) aims to support financially projects and activities for the promotion and development of research in accordance with:

1. The European Framework for State Aid for Research, Development and Innovation (OB, C 198 from 27.06.2014);
2. the National Research Strategy;
3. the National Reform Program;
4. Framework programs with specific priorities for the European Union, as well as other European and international initiatives;
5. The European and National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure.

The National Science Fund provides financial support for world-class scientific researches and scientific capacity development in the Republic of Bulgaria, related to:

1. the creation of new scientific knowledge;
2. Bulgarian history, language, culture and national identity;
3. promoting the development of the natural, technical, humanities and social sciences;
4. solving problems in the fields of economy, education, agriculture, ecology, public processes, human resources, security, defence, and health.

The activity of the National Science Fund is implemented through the financing of national scientific programs and research projects in higher education institutions and scientific organizations in the Republic of Bulgaria, following the internationally recognized standards and taking into account the existing national scientific potential and public needs and priorities.

The Fund, with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science, works in coordination with other research funding institutions. The National Science Fund participates in the preparation and implementation of the programs specified in the budget in a programmatic format of the Ministry of Education and Science in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Education and Science. The financial stimulation of research shall be carried out in such a way as to ensure the efficiency and transparency of public expenditure.
