About ULSIT

The University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT) is a state university, transformed on 29th June 2010 by a decision of the National Assembly and is the successor of the Specialized Higher School of Library Studies and Information Technologies, voted by the National Assembly in 2004, The State Library Institute, established in 1950, by the Higher Library Studies Institute (PIBD), the College of Library Affairs (KBD), and the College of Library Studies and Information Technologies (KBIT).

ULSIT trains bachelor, masters and PhD programs for the educational and scientific degrees for which it is accredited.

ULSIT actively participates in the international professional life, carries out international cooperation on bilateral agreements with similar institutions in Russia, Germany, France, Poland, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, and others. Member of IFLA – International Federation of Library Associations, LIBER –  Association of European Research Libraries, ICOM – International Council of Museums, National Technical Committee on Standardization of Archive, Librarianship and Information Activity (TC 16), the Union of Library and Information Workers (SBIR), and others.

ULSIT’s public mission is to prepare highly qualified, socially and personally motivated and adaptable to the work environment and the challenges of the information society specialists with real and applicable theoretical knowledge and practical skills for working in different areas of social and economic life, that are able to communicate, to work in a team and to take on the responsibility of citizens, who are called upon to contribute to raising the cultural level of the nation and integrating it with European and world values.

The university sets as its main strategic goal the sustainable development and proving its new identity as a leader in the field of information security education, protection and presentation of cultural and historical heritage, library and information technologies, information brokerage and press communications, as well as its full participation in the formation and implementation of state education policies.
